Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
